Self Love Bootcamp Impact
This summer, our Self-Love Bootcamp had 53 high-school aged participants, for a 5-week, 100 hour intensive. Our Mindful Youth Ambassadors program saw 28 graduates, and we hosted over 400 people in our summer community pop-up series, Finding Myself in Nature.

Thank you for participating, supporting, volunteering, partnering, and being a part of the Light of Loving Kindness Community.

We will begin registering soon for two spring sessions beginning in February 2023. If you know young adults who could benefit from more self-love, self-care, self-awareness, and emotional resiliency, then send them our way.

All youth participants receive a stipend to participate in our programs! Imagine that – getting paid to learn to love yourself more.

Links to register for upcoming bootcamps will be found in our Linktree profile, once they are available.

Paz Mental is a virtual interview series that focuses on mindfulness, mental wellness practices, and social-emotional learning through bilingual education (Spanish/English) in the Latino/x community. It provides a range of best practices from practitioners and organizations serving Hispanic and Latino/x youth, families, and community members.
We've created an interactive visual network of mental wellness resources and holistic practitioners throughout Chicagoland for the Latino/x population in order to introduce basics of mindfulness and good mental health practices.
We are so happy to release our first set of interviews, starting with Part 1 of a 4 part series with an Amazing, Chicago-based Thought Leader, Lorena Lopez! We're happy to share the second wave of interviews on LOLK’s Youtube page and on all our social media platforms.

The Science of Healing

Let's talk about Sound Healing: Did you know...

We all have songs that move us greatly. Some songs make us laugh. Some make us cry. Some make us want to dance, and many of us have heard stories from our parents about what song was playing the night we were conceived. Whatever your experiences with music, it would be challenging to find a person who does not enjoy some form of music. It seems we, as a species, have innately connected to the rhythms of our people, our communities, of our lives. Today, we know that sound can truly heal the savage beast. Now let’s see what science has to say about Sound Healing.

According to Harvard University, Music Therapy, often referred to as Sound Healing by many in holistic practices, is a powerful therapeutic tool that combines different sounds of musical elements to promote astounding benefits for those who choose to participate in this form of personal healing.

The benefits of Sound Healing can improve the quality of one’s life in a variety of ways. For example, Harvard University states that music has been proven in clinical trials to: reduce anxiety, reduce a need for sedatives after surgery, reduce discomfort and pain as well as reducing the need for painkillers. Moreover, they state…

It been proven to help people recovering from stroke or traumatic brain injury, helping to restore lost speech.

It reduces the side effects of cancer therapy including anxiety, nausea, and vomiting for patients receiving chemotherapy.

It aids in reducing acute pain by decreasing pain perception.

It reduces the amount of pain medication needed and helps relieve depression in those suffering from acute pain.

For those with dementia, music can help patients to recall memories, while reducing agitation, assisting in communication, and improving physical coordination (health.harvard.edu).

And although there is much more evidence of the effects of sound healing on one’s body and mind, the Association for Music Therapy states there is clinical evidence-based research that shows music interventions help patients in the following areas:

  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Addiction Treatment
  • Mental Health
  • Substance Abuse
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health
  • Demetria /care
  • Hospice Care
  • PTSD suffers
  • Babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • Pain Management
  • Special Education
  • Other Health Concerns (MusicTherapy.org)

Have you considered adding Sound to your personal healing practice? There are many ways to integrate healing sounds into your life, even if you don’t see a certified music therapist. Seek out the sounds, vibrations, rhythms, and frequencies that cause you to feel more relaxed, less anxious, more stable, and even happier. Then gravitate to these sounds in your daily life. A little bit of healing sound can go a long way.
